Balance...

Balance...it's one of those things...something you have or don't have...Not everyone has the balance of Shawn Johnson the newest gold medalist of the Balance Beam! Oh, how I wish I did :D How amazing would it be to stand on that seemingly tiny piece of wood and walk, jump, twist & turn????

This week the word Balance has been on my mind...it all started on Sunday during Sunday School and our study of the 10 Commandments.....the class was discussing "Sabbath...the Day of Rest".....which led to a discussion of balance. It made me think....How do I balance my time and life??? Is there time for rest, renewal and worship??? Is there time to simply just "be"???

Do we live in a crazy time, or do we make our lives crazy???? As I think about it...it seems like life is at a 70 mile an hour pace most of the time...there's work, keeping up the home, family, appointments here & there, social events, commitments....it's no wonder there is an overload of grumpies and bad days. How do we slow down in a world that keeps calling us to go faster and faster??? Mmmm.....so much to think about, do & be. As Psalm 90:12 says "Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom".

So here's where I need balance...balance to keep things in perspective...work, family, responsibilities...they all matter, but it's where I place those things on the balance that keeps it right. To be able to keep the scales balanced or one foot in front of the other....I have to find my own balance!

How??? Well, for me, the answer is listening to God. To spend time worshipping Him, serving Him...and reflecting on His wonderous gifts. Taking time to simply "be"! It's not easy for sure, but I do know when I take time to do those things...my life feels in "balance"...and what a great feeling that is!!!

How about you....Are you finding time to rest, reflect, & renew??? I hope you are finding yourself nearing the gold medalist title of balance beam champion! Sweet blessings!

This is struggle for me also! It seems funny to me that "in the old days" they had to actually DO so much more (no dishwashers, no washing machines, no hair dryers, no cell phones, no CARS!), but my impression of that time is that they lived much simpler, slower, more peaceful and more thoughtful lives. I long for that! Dan had a boss several years ago that told each employee he/she should schedule ONE HOUR a day, during work, just to sit and think about how they could do things better (This wasn't a criticism as they were already doing well). Wouldn't that be nice? I think you are right- it's about priorities, which for me usually means being able to limit my committments outside the family (AKA, say "no"). Hard to do sometimes... Thoughtful topic! Teri :)

Oh how I wish I had the whole {balance} thing figured out!

Balancing my job, with my time spent with God, with my family, with my friends, with my activities.

My motto: Live Simply. Expect Little. Give Much.

I try my best to live that way, and yet I still find it a struggle to actually DO IT. Hmmm.

Making my day count is my goal. And I guess the good news is, we're never alone. Jesus is there watching over us, helping us be the best we can be... when we take time to seek Him & acknowlege that He has given us this life (and all the activities that come with it)we're blessed with, we do have it figured out!!

I rambled... and it's not even my post. :) But, there you have it.
