A perfect day!
I can hardly believe this...but, I'm actually posting two days in a row....Yeahhhh! Today I just wanted to share that work was an absolutely perfect day! Of course, I only had 7 kids, and they are totally amazing and easy...I just LOVE days like that. I can see how much the kids are growing each day due to the smaller class size...it's so nice having time to visit one on one with each of them. And, I am in awe at how fast they are responding to my English...I hardly have to ask my assistant to interpret for them at all :D They even are starting to tell me how to say some words in Spanish. The more I work at Migrant Summer School, the more in awe I am at these precious children. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be in a strange room, everything new, nothing familiar, and listen to jibberish all day?!?! And, yet by the end of the four weeks (this year it's five) they are so confident and comfortable in the environment.And, I feel content knowing that at least when Kindergarten comes in a few weeks they will be more prepared, and ready to keep growing forward...! I just LOVE it when I see the spark in their eyes that they understand me....(just like I LOVE it when they come up to me and try to have a conversation with me in Spanish...they so want to reach out!) Today, it was funny on the playground two of the little boys (Emmanuel & Abel)kept coming over to me...I could tell they wanted to tell me something...they kept whispering back and forth to each other...and I knew the one (Emmanuel)was telling the other (Abel)..."tell her in English"...finally, Emmanuel steps toward me and said "We want to go inside now"!! It made me smile...and we did just that...we went inside! Oh, how I wish I could capture their smiles forever!!! So, today was a perfect day....easy and fun...just how life at 5 should be!!! I hope each of you had a perfect day too...Sweet blessings!

Playing with Pictures...
I've decided it's time I figure out how to post pictures....so, here it goes... :D
WhoooooHooooo....I did it! How I don't know, but hey at least I got a couple pictures on my blog...Now, let me tell you about the pictures...The first two are of my workers (a.k.a. Melissa & Ben :D) They came to pour cement on my side steps...which were started by another hired "remodeling expert" and never finished for the past almost two years....how I always get took by those seemingly nice, wholesome contrators is beyond me...anyway...they did a great job...and I'm soooo excited to finally have steps on that side of my house....and it looks so comfy with potted plants filling the steps now :D
The second picture is of my two (of 8 barn cats :D) KC is the one on the left...and Scaredy is the one on the right...Scaredy is actually KC's aunt! There now you have all the cat history :D Actually, they both have very funny personalities...KC never lets me pet her...and Scaredy follows me around begging to be petted! So, there....a little "peek" into some of my world :D I hope the pictures are the beginning of my new blogging fun...but, somehow I still think I need a tutoring session....!!! Okay, I really need a whole computer class! Sweet blessings!
A tribute to Farmer's Marketeers
As you already know our lives are being consumed right now by farmer's markets...and I haven't been very good about doing them without grumbling here and there! (Something I really must learn to work on :D)
Well, the more I go, the more I learn and the more God opens my eyes...it's more than just a market filled with home-grown goodies...there is a family network and community that happens when you spend half your week working markets side by side to the same people...and, as I do...I realize...I have NO reason at all to grumble. We go, we set up, sell our beef, leave, arrive home and unload...END of story. My comrades, however...begin their journey much differently...they begin before the sunlight touches the earth...picking, pulling, washing, packing...loading...and finally arrive at the market...next setting up, talking, promoting, and sharing their homegrown products, then, they head home, unpack, and spend even more hours in their fields picking, watering, pruning, packing for the next market. Their day does not begin at the market...but long before and long after the market hours are over....It isn't just Wednesday, Friday & Saturday's for them...it's everyday from sun-up to sun-down. They truly are amazing people!
I can't help but stand in awe of them when I think about it being more than a market to them...it's their life...their livelyhood, their means of making it through the year. No matter how tired they are, how sore, how hot the weather...they work..no days off! So, I've realized...I am blessed...I get the opportunity to develop friendships with some very amazing people...people who LOVE what they do...and do it with a smile. And, even though I tease one produce vendor that at least he gets to take a break in the winter, cozied up to the woodstove, while I"m knee deep in mud and frozen water troughs...I know that he has earned the right to have a line 20 people long before the market even opens!
So, I'm hoping each time that grumpy feeling starts to creep in...I'll think of those weathered hands that are working so hard during this season...and, a smile will creep back in! If you haven't tried a farmer's market...find one near you...go experience the amazing products offered...watch out..it is addictive and you will truly be amazed that things can taste so different than what you find in the supermarkets! Happy tasting! Sweet blessings....

Kindness still Exists!!!
Hello there....I know it's been 12 days since I last posted...Naughty ME!!! As I sat down tonight to finally add some words to my blog...I found this story in my inbox....It was truly uplifting, encouraging and heart-warming to me....(It actually came with pictures, which were adorable, but, I've yet to learn how to add those), so, I hope the words alone will warm your heart too!
This story was sent to me by a friend of ours. Isn't it amazing!!
Something really amazing happened in Downtown Spokane this week and I had to share the story with you.
Some of you may know that my brother, Joel, is a loan officer at Sterling Bank.(Okay, this is from the email....Not my writing...so, don't be alarmed...I DON"T have a brother named Joel :D...Just thought I should clarify that !) He works downtown in a second story office building, overlooking busy Riverside Avenue. Several weeks ago he watched a mother duck choose the cement awning outside his window as the uncanny place to build a nest above the sidewalk.
The mallard laid nine eggs in a nest in the corner of the planter that is perched over 10 feet in the air. She dutifully kept the eggs warm for weeks and Monday afternoon all of her nine ducklings hatched.
Joel worried all night how the mamma duck was going to get those babies safely off their perch in a busy, downtown, urban environment to take to water, which typically happens in the first 48 hours of a duck hatching. Tuesday morning, Joel came to work and watched the mother duck encourage her babies to the edge of the perch with the intent to show them how to jump off!
The mother flew down below and started quacking to her babies above. In his disbelief Joel watched as the first fuzzy newborn toddled to the edge and astonishingly leapt into thin air, crashing onto the cement below.
My brother couldn't watch how this might play out. He dashed out of his office and ran down the stairs the sidewalk where the first obedient duckling was stuporing near its mother from the near fatal fall.
Joel looked up. The second duckling was getting ready to jump! He quickly dodged under the awning while the mother duck quacked at him and the babies above. As the second one took the plunge, Joel jumped forward and caught it with his bare hands before it hit the cement. Safe and sound, he set it by the mamma and the other stunned sibling, still recovering from its painful leap.
One by one the babies continued to jump to join their anxious family below. Each time Joel hid under the awning just to reach out in the nick of time as the duckling made its free fall. The downtown sidewalk came to a standstill. Time after time, Joel was able to catch the remaining 7 and set them by their approving mother.
At this point Joel realized the duck family had only made part of its dangerous journey. They had 2 full blocks to walk across traffic, crosswalks, curbs, and pedestrians to get to the closest open water, the Spokane River The onlooking office secretaries then joined in, and hurriedly brought an empty copy paper box to collect the babies. They carefully corralled them, with the mother's approval, and loaded them up into the white cardboard container. Joel held the box low enough for the mom to see her brood. He then slowly navigated through the downtown streets toward the Spokane River, as the mother waddled behind and kept her babies in sight.
As they reached the river, the mother took over and passed him, jumping into the river and quacking loudly.
At the water's edge, the Sterling Bank office staff then tipped the box and helped shepherd the babies toward the water and to their mother after their adventurous ride.
All nine darling ducklings safely made it into the water and paddled up snugly to mamma duck. Joel said the mom swam in circles, looking back toward the beaming bank workers, and proudly quacking as if to say,
'See, we did it! Thanks for all the help!
Thankfully, one of the secretaries had a digital camera and was able to capture most of it (except the actual mid-air catching) in a series of attached photographs. Please join me in celebrating my brother--
The Downtown Duck Hero!
Great Job by Joel, huh! It's great to know that in our crazy, out-of-control World...that kindness, goodness, and being a good neighbor still exist! Sweet Blessings!

Weekend Adventures....
Why oh, why, I can't seem to post everyday is beyond me :D I always think, "I'm going to post each day, even if it's just ramblings..." but, somehow, it just never materializes!
So, I thought I'd share our weekend adventures with you! As always, it's a whirlwind with the farmer's market season in full swing! (The best part being, I come home with lots of good, healthy things for our bodies...fresh market fruits & vegetables are the best..this week it was blueberries, canteloupe, and homemade blackberry jam...Pat's favorite :D) Of course, you have to add that home-grown beef to the list that fills every available freezer space at the Mallon Casa :D Friday night is spent in Pendleton from 4:00 to 8:00...okay, that's Pat's time schedule...I usually show up a little late around 5ish...(Someone has to do the chores at home and deposit the money from the Richland morning market :D)...then, Saturday it's up by 4:15 and to Pasco to the market from 8:00 to Noon. My consolation for getting up so early is usually a huge, homemade cinnamon roll...that is almost as good as my Mom's! Although, I don't really like the way my pants are fitting lately, so this week I traded in my cinnamon roll for a chai tea?!!?! Crazy right??? Pretty much Saturday afternoon is filled with a nice LONG nap...then, catching up on whatever else needs done...this week it was mowing the lawn, and moving three of the horses from on pasture to another...which went extremely well, I must add :D
This Sunday, I was teaching Sunday School, covering as a greeter at the door, and Pat had an Elder meditation....everything went well...and once again we found ourselves cuddled up sound asleep on the couch. Which really wasn't part of our plan....I've started going to the Swedish Breast Center in Seattle for my mammograms...and bless my sweet husbands heart...he always takes me...what a good man! (and, what a scaredy cat wife he has....the thought of driving in Seattle traffic makes me nauseaus to say the least !) So, the plan was to get our chores done, and head out on a road trip toward Seattle...picking a place to stop and stay the night making the trip a little more fun and not so long of a day! Well, you know things never go as planned here....so, by the time Pat finished taking care of business...it was after 6:30 when we finally pulled out the drive-way...we are about a mile from our house and driving by a pasture we rent..Pat is on the phone getting directions for some beef we are delivering when I shout out "There's a baby, there's a baby"!!! Sure enough...one of our first-time heifers had calved (she obviously didn't hear the conversation Pat & I had earlier about no one being ready to calve until August!!!) So, of course, I made Pat stop so I could go check out my new baby for myself....you never quite know what a first time Mama might do, so I went very slow...and she was great. I'm so proud of her...she's a great Mama and I'm pleased to announce she has an adorable, all black baby girl...now named Mia (after Mia in the Princess Diaries...which was just on tv the night before...and I thouht...I'm going to name my next baby just that!) Who'd of thought, it would be the very next day!!! Yeahhhhh....life is good when new babies start hitting the ground...for me it is the absolutely BEST part of the whole "Cow life"!!!
Wow...I think I'm writing a book....back to the story....
After admiring little Mia, we got back in the truck and headed towards the Tri-Cities to meet a lady in desperate need of our hamburger patties...after many phone calls and trying to figure out a half-way meeting spot for both of us...we finally met her at a Conoco station in Kennewick...dropped off the box, and headed toward Seattle...Oops...I left out a story detail....Because Pat travels so much with his job he has earned bonus points toward free night's stays at some motels...and before we left, he actually, called and reserved us a room at the Best Western in Cle Elum (I do have a great man...who knows I like to stay in a nice place when we travel...so, he booked me one :D) Maybe, he's heard a few too many times...I'm with the animals day in and day out...when, I go somewhere I want it to be a NICE place!!! He is the best though! He even took me to a darling little Starbucks in Prosser...if you are ever in that area, make sure you stop in...(besides there are two very cute knick knack shops right next door...I only wish they had been open!)
We finally, hit Yakima around 9:00 and decide to stop for a bite to eat...Shari's seems like the reasonable choice....that was until we had to wait for 10 minutes to get seated, then, another 15 and still no one checked in on us...we have NEVER done this in our entire lives...but, we decided to just leave...it felt kind of funny..but, we hadn't ordered, so I think it was okay...so, where did we eat, you ask?!?!? Wendy's...good ole' faithful Wendy's! After dinner, Pat was pretty sleepy so I drove the rest of the way to Cle Elum...and we arrived finally after 11:00! It is so pretty there...all the trees...I just LOVE the smell of pine trees....! We got to sleep in until 7:30...and then drove the rest of the way to Seattle for my appointment...Praise God it was all good again!!! And....Pat was great at manuevering his truck into the compact parking spaces in those parking garages :D Only us "country" kids take our trucks to the big city! Overall...it was a great weekend...with some fun adventures thrown in...thanks for letting me share it all with you...hope your eyes are strained from all the reading...and, that you are all finding some fun adventures in your weekends....Sweet blessings!

Saturday & Sunday Sweet Blessings...
I had the sweetest blessing on Saturday...Pat & I were in Pasco working the Farmer's Market...and some friends stopped in to see us....We were happy to see them...they always take good care of us...and they brought us both drinks from Starbucks! What a Sweet blessing!!! (Thank you Lori, Clint, & Max!!!) Somehow they knew I loved Starbucks Ice Tea...and Pat got a Mocha Frappacino...which he promptly sucked down in two minutes :D It was great!
Then, after church today, I had to stop by Safeway for a few things....I already told Pat...I was avoiding Starbucks today (mostly because I had left my gift card at home)...anyway, he heads to the meat section...his favorite place to hang out..you know he must compare their product with his :D I finished my shopping, checked-out and headed to the meat section to pick him up...and he said "Want to get a Starbucks?" As, I started my explaination...he cut me off dead sentence..."I'll buy, you know I'm loaded"..ha, ha...But, hey he was offering...so we head in that direction! I've decided I should splurge since he was buying...NO ICE TEA today...instead I ordered a Strawberry Creme' Frappacino...Mmmmm....better than a Strawberry Milkshake :D And, he had a White Chocolate, Mocha Frappacino! This time, I was the one who had mine sucked down in two minutes! It was a very Sweet blessing! (Okay, besides the fact, that he let me sleep in this morning, and did all the chores!) It's been a perfect Sunday...Simplicity! Yep, it's beginning to work...and I'm soooo loving it! I hope all that Starbucks talk didn't make you have to run out to Starbucks yourself! Sweet blessings!!!

Happy Fourth of July!
I just wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! I hope it's filled to overflowing...(hey, wasn't my last post about simplicity???) Oops! May your day be filled with lots of fun, great food, and amazing fireworks!!! Sweet blessings!
It's been a long, long time...
It's been a long, long time since I last posted...what in the world is going on you might ask??? Just LIFE...you know how it can be....sometimes, I just can't figure it out....you would think the older I get the simpler life would get, but so far that hasn't been the case....so, here's a quick wrap-up of June :D
* Finished up Stanfield Summer School...woooohoooo!
* Farmer's markets...Hermiston, Pendleton & Pasco...Poor Pat, he does Richland by himself :D
* Mowing the lawn....weeding the flower beds, mowing the lawn, watering, over & over again!
* Drinking lots of Starbucks Ice Teas
* Spraying down the house & porch...where oh where does all that dirt come from...wait..I know..the neighbors fields :D
* Several trips to Walmart
* Weaning some baby calves from their Mamas :( It always makes me sad for both of them...but, it's funny in a week how neither care about it that much!)
* Hauling a horse to the farrier to see why she's limping...still a mystery (why my animals can't have normal ailments is beyond me!)
* Moving the Mama cows to different pastures...
* Driving the horse trailer for Pat because he hurt his neck (see I really am a "cowgirl" :D)
* Emailing friends....blog reading (my daily newspapers!)
Mmmm....where in my list is just sitting, soaking in God's creation, and enjoying a nice evening on the porch??? Simplicity??? SIMPLICITY...Now, that's my new favorite word....it's becomming more than a word...it's something I so yearn for...and soooo need to learn to make a reality! Any suggestions??? I think that is really God's plan for all of us--- Simplicity. Slow down, stop rushing, enjoy today...just rest, relax, & soak in God. Sit on that porch, with a nice cold Ice Tea or Lemonade..(Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10)
So, that was my June...and I'm working on making July a month of Simplicity...I hope you can find time to do just that too...Sweet blessings!
* Finished up Stanfield Summer School...woooohoooo!
* Farmer's markets...Hermiston, Pendleton & Pasco...Poor Pat, he does Richland by himself :D
* Mowing the lawn....weeding the flower beds, mowing the lawn, watering, over & over again!
* Drinking lots of Starbucks Ice Teas
* Spraying down the house & porch...where oh where does all that dirt come from...wait..I know..the neighbors fields :D
* Several trips to Walmart
